It is a meaningful Tartan,

The predominant colors,
Green and Blue,
represent the
Agricultural Land and Sky
that supports the growth
of South Dakota;
and the valued traditions
people pass from
generation to generation.

The Red color
represents the
Warrior's Strength;
and the ability to make
sacrifices to worthy ends.

The White color
represents the
Purity of
Musical Expression,
and the
Seasonal Snows
of a Beautiful
South Dakota Winter.

The Gold color
represents the
Black Hills,
and the Hospitality
given by
South Dakotans
to those who visit.
